Google Ads now pulls coupons and deals from your website into your ads by default, since Oct 12

What changed

Automated promotions let Google Ads find offers on your landing pages, such as "Buy one get one free" or "20% off", and attach them as promotion assets to eligible Search and Performance Max campaigns. Campaigns are eligible if they have location assets attached (including Local Ad campaigns) and no manual promotion running. Google emailed some advertisers that it would opt them in automatically starting October 12, 2026 (email published by Search Engine Roundtable on Oct 5). Google's help center lists the setting as On by default. Each automated promotion serves for less than 24 hours and is re-enabled only while Google can still see the offer on your site. Google can't read promotion start and end dates yet, and the promotions may serve beyond Search across Google's ad inventory.

What to do

If any Search or Performance Max campaign uses location assets, check what offers your landing pages show: expired sales, member-only or newsletter codes, old prices. Either add your own promotion asset (campaigns with a manual promotion are skipped) or turn it off: Assets > More > Account level automated assets > More > Advanced settings > Automated promotions: Off. To see what Google added, filter Assets by Promotion and look for "Google AI" in the Added by column. Repeat in every account you manage.
