Meta lets you pick an age range and gender for each creative inside one ad set
What changed
Meta launched "Choose an audience for each ad creative" on October 19, 2026, and it's live for Marketing API partners now. You switch it on at the ad set, then give each ad (or each image or video in a multi-media ad) its own age range and gender. The API reference calls it creative audience pairing, and it has strict rules. The ad set has to stay broad: minimum age between 18 and 25, maximum age 65, all genders. It can't be combined with Advantage+ audience or with age and gender suggestions. Requests that break these rules fail. Meta hasn't said whether the persona is a hard limit or a delivery hint, and it hasn't published any performance data.
What to do
If you split ad sets only to send different creatives to men and women, or to younger and older buyers, test one broad ad set with per-creative audiences against your current setup. Advantage+ audience has to be off, so run it as a test, not a switch. If you use a buying tool or your own scripts, check they can read and write the new targeting_automation.creative_audience_pairing flag and the creative_audience_pairing_persona field without breaking.
