Meta removes manual ad set placements for Sales, Leads, Engagement and App promotion campaigns
What changed
Meta's Business Help Center now says that for the Sales, Leads, Engagement and App promotion objectives "you no longer choose placements manually at the ad set level." Only Awareness and Traffic keep manual placements. It's rolling out gradually, so some accounts still show the old controls. Meta's suggested replacements are per-placement creative (up to 10 images and videos in one ad, and ads won't deliver where no supported asset exists), placement value rules that move bids up or down but don't switch a placement off, and new account-level placement exclusions that you can set per objective. This confirms the August test AdShift logged, and it now covers four objectives.
What to do
List the Sales and Leads ad sets that depend on manual exclusions such as Audience Network or right column, and save their placement breakdowns now. Then set account-level exclusions by objective (Advertising settings > Account controls) for placements you can never run on, and use placement value rules to down-weight weak placements. Remember that account-level exclusions apply to every campaign in the account.
