Klaviyo preference pages get a Tracking consent block, and saving the page switches off open or click tracking for anyone who leaves it unchecked
What changed
Klaviyo added a Tracking consent block for preference pages so recipients can give or withdraw consent to email open tracking, click tracking or both. It works on the account default preference page and on list-specific preference pages, not on subscribe or unsubscribe pages (subscribe pages are "coming soon"). The catch: when someone who sees the block saves their preferences, Klaviyo saves a choice for every tracking type the block shows, even if they didn't touch it, and an unchecked box or No sets them to Unsubscribed from that tracking type. Klaviyo's help article says this "includes recipients you have never asked", because everyone without recorded consent sees the box unchecked. Location settings (by IP when the page opens) limit who sees the block; if Klaviyo can't tell the location, a "show in certain locations" block stays hidden. Tracking consent is separate from marketing consent, and changes are logged as profile events. It builds on the sign-up form tracking consent block from October.
What to do
Before adding the block, decide with whoever owns privacy where you actually need tracking consent (for example the EU or UK) and set the block's location to only those places. If you show it to everyone, people who update preferences for another reason will stop being tracked, and open and click rates, engagement segments and click-based flows will quietly shrink. Add it to every preference page your emails link to, and replace the default consent text with approved wording.
